Ingredients

Cinnamon sugar coating
  • unsalted butter Melted.
  • brown sugar
  • granulated sugar
  • ground cinnamon
  • ground nutmeg
  • vanilla extract
Apple rings
  • apples Honeycrisp or Fuji, cored and sliced into 1/2-inch rings.
Serving
  • vanilla ice cream
  • caramel sauce

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Make the cinnamon butter
  1. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly combined and glossy.
Coat the apples
  1. Toss apple rings in the cinnamon butter coating until well covered, then let any excess drip back into the bowl.
Air fry
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 380F.
  2. Arrange the coated rings in a single layer with space between them, then air fry 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and caramelized.
  3. Air fry in batches so the rings keep crisp edges rather than steaming.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream and caramel dipping sauce.

Notes

For best caramelization, keep the rings in a single layer and flip exactly halfway through. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350F for 3-4 minutes to re-crisp, or microwave briefly. Freezing is not recommended because the apples lose texture. For a lower-sugar option, reduce brown and granulated sugar by half and keep the cinnamon/nutmeg the same.
