Patriotic Puppy Chow

Patriotic puppy chow is a no-bake muddy buddies-style Chex mix dessert coated in smooth white chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar. Finish it with red and blue M&Ms and star sprinkles for a red, white, and blue party snack that looks like a bowlful of snowy confetti.

Ingredients
  

Chex cereal (rice or corn)
  • 9 cups Chex cereal (rice or corn)
white chocolate coating
  • 12 oz white chocolate chips or white melting wafers
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
dusting
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup red M&Ms
  • 1 cup blue M&Ms
  • 1 Red and blue star sprinkles

Method
 

Prep
  1. Measure the Chex cereal into a very large bowl and set aside.
  2. Line a sheet pan with parchment so the coated cereal can cool without sticking.
Make the white chocolate coating
  1. Melt the white chocolate chips or white melting wafers and unsalted butter together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until completely smooth.
Coat and sugar-dust
  1. Pour the melted white chocolate over the Chex and stir gently until every piece is evenly coated, with a glossy look.
  2. Transfer the coated cereal to a large zip-lock bag, add powdered sugar, seal, and shake vigorously until every piece looks dusted and snowy.
Cool and finish
  1. Spread the coated cereal onto the parchment-lined sheet pan in a single layer for even cooling.
  2. Let it cool for 30 minutes until set, watching for the chocolate to turn matte and feel firm.
  3. Transfer the cooled puppy chow to a large bowl and toss with red M&Ms and blue M&Ms until evenly distributed.
  4. Add the red and blue star sprinkles and toss again, then serve immediately in a big bowl or portion into individual bags.

Notes

For best coating, stop stirring as soon as the chocolate/butter mixture is smooth and pour right away so it stays fluid. Store airtight at room temperature for up to 3 days (no freezing for best texture). For a lighter option, use sugar-free white chocolate or reduced-sugar melting wafers and keep the rest the same.
